A couple of months ago, I decided that in order to lose some weight I needed to organize my easting habits a bit. I work from home and I have a tendency to go into my refrigerator at random times throughout the day and pull out whatever tastes good and doesn’t need any preparation, whether it’s something healthy or not. So I figured that I could take an hour a week to prepare a bunch of chicken salad a few different ways, put them in plastic storage bins, and stick them in the fridge. That way whenever I get the munchies, I can reach in, pull one out, and voila! Instant healthy snack/meal.

I was half thinking that this new system of mine would only last a week or two, but to my intense surprise, I’ve been doing it for a couple of months now, and it’s still working really well! The trick is the food storage containers.

When I got this started I headed over to K-mart and bought two different sets of Rubbermaid storage bins; one set for chicken salads, the other set for plain ones. I take an hour out of one day per week, pull out all the ingredients (I tend to make some pretty elaborate salads), cook the chicken, and divide the salads evenly into all eight storage containers. Rubbermaid makes very high quality products, and the containers keep everything nice and fresh throughout the week.

This is a great way to eat healthier for those of us who are constantly doing things that we don’t want interrupted by having to cook 3 meals a day. And Rubbermaid makes it super easy with all different shapes, colors, and sizes for their storage containers to help you stay organized, which will in turn help you stay healthy. I definitely recommend Rubbermaid storage bins.
