Why might you need to use work gloves. If you are asking yourself that question it would be important to note that hand injuries are the most common form of work related injury. Hand injuries range from minor to life altering. Loose a thumb and you will have a hard time doing many routine activities like tying your shoes. Many of these accidents could be avoided by wearing the proper glove for the job. I’ll look at a couple of different types of gloves and try to help you figure out what you need.

There are lots of different kinds of work gloves and the prices can be substantially different. Leather gloves are one of the most common types of work gloves. Most of them are simple construction and a reliably durable leather. Keep an eye out for cheap leather, bad stitching, and bad fit. Gloves are not one size fits all. You need dexterity when wearing gloves which means you need them to fit properly. Many leather gloves are famous for being huge and bulky, avoid these and find some that fit.

Mechanix gloves are the most common type of work glove out there. There are simply thin synthetic gloves for light duty work. They aren’t going to save you from much but they will certainly keep your hands safer than nothing at all. They are good for dexterity and allow you to feel what you are doing. They also keep your hands clean and some are fire retardant.

Vibration resistant gloves. Using heavy power tools for long periods of time can lead to something similar to carpal tunnel syndrome from the vibration. Vibration resistant work gloves can help reduce this and lower the symptoms.

Insulated gloves. No surprised here. This is what most people use gloves for in the beginning. Keeping your hands warm is very important weather you are at work or at play. Make sure that you have a good quality insulation that isn’t packed down and unable to hold heat. Water proof and breathable are also important aspects to consider when purchasing gloves and many insulated gloves will have some type of water proofing layer.

Choose the right work glove for the job and keep your hands safe for another day.
