What are the things that make for quality sterling silver stud earrings? Most of us don’t give much thought about purchasing a new pair of silver stud earrings do we? They are a mainstay in our jewelry cases, and fashionable women of every age have at least a few pairs of studs on hand, and some women have an entire jewelry rack devoted to various styles, shapes and colors of them.
Many smart women have two or more pairs of the same size and style of silver studs. If they lose or snag one somehow, they just go the spare pair for a replacement, which brings us to the first important practical quality consideration.
Look for earrings that have classic style, like the little round balls or square ones. Try them on and select the size and shape that are best for your face shape and hairstyle. When you buy earrings like this, you can easily buy a new duplicate pair even years later, which in effect makes you have three pair.
Only buy top quality .925 sterling silver. Avoid the ones coming out of china. While they are typically cheaper, they are usually loaded with lead. When purchasing your silver jewlery online, make sure that the description plainly says, “lead free”. If you are buying it from a brick and mortar store, ask the clerk if it is free of lead and look to see that it is stamped “.925″ or “sterling”.
Check to make sure that the method of securing the earring post to the ear works well and that it too is of good quality lead free silver or alternately you could look for stainless steel or titanium, which are both hypoallergenic metals and are also safe for all ear piercings.
The various closing methods include butterfly findings, French hooks, clips, screw backs, omega, and lever and saddlebacks. If you worry about losing a favorite pair, the screw back is superior to the butterfly back.
Another problematic area is how the post is attached to the front part of the earring. The entire earring should function as one piece. Cheaper silver earrings have a tendency to separate where the post meets the front part.
Check before you buy for dents and nicks in the silver. These unsightly defects result from dirty molds at the factory, and do greatly cheapen the appearance of any earrings made from silver.
By following these simple buying tips, you should find yourself with a pair of sterling silver stud earrings that will stay beautiful and in good wearing condition for many years to come.
