Sack trolleys are used by most warehouse employees to safely move heavy items around from one location to another without fear of putting undue strain on the body. Any company owner that doesn’t already require the use of sack trucks by workers should think about getting some to help employees handle heavy loads without fear of injury.

There are fewer accidents reported with the use of trolleys but that does not mean that you need to ignore other safety precautions that need to be taken at all times. An employee should make a habit of verifying that the equipment is in good working condition before putting it to use. The maximum recommended weight should not be exceeded and the load needs to be balanced for optimum performance

Inspect the brakes carefully and make sure that the wheels on the trolley roll freely and do not stick. Handles should not be worn to the point that they are ready to break. They need to be firmly attached to the frame and show no signs of slipping out of place. If the handles are not secure, do not use the item. Accidents can also occur when the brakes do not work properly. Check to verify that the wheels are fully intact and be sure to inspect for nicks or gouges that would lead to a bumpy ride.

Items that are to be transported must be loaded onto the trolley with special care taken to the balance during the process. Heavy items should be stacked on the device first and lighter items should be on top. This will keep the whole thing from tipping over when you round a corner. Stabilize the load by making sure the load is as evenly distributed down the middles as you can get it. If you absolutely cannot avoid transporting an uneven load, the use of securing straps is mandatory for safety purposes.

All units are clearly marked with a safe load limit that should be strictly adhered to. Various models of the same cart will be rated for different size loads. Keep in mind that collapsible trucks are typically rated for lighter loads. Sticking to general safety and health regulations in the workplace is the best way to keep accidents to a minimum and prevent as many injuries as possible. Always use a sack trolley when you are responsible for transporting heavy items from one location to another.
