Today in America many people suffer from one major problem, obesity. Obesity for those who may be unaware is defined as “more than average fatness”. Its a rather blunt issue, either you are obese or you are not, and for those that are, their are new and improved ways to combat the issue, being found every day. Those with a large amount of money, and willing to take a risk may opt for surgery to reduce obesity. Though the tried, true, and safe way to loose weight is to find a place to workout, and eat properly. To exercise properly, you will need a device that allows you to do so such as the air climber by Brenda Dygraf. It wont solve all of your problems overnight, but sustained used in conjunction with a proper diet, will certainly propel you to new heights.
Before we get into the nitty gritty details of the air climber and what it can do for your health and weight loss programs, lets discuss what weight loss really is. For those of you that may not be aware, the reason that people gain weight comes from the fact that they are at a caloric surplus. This means that a person is taking in more calories than he or she is burning out on a daily basis. Most often these are sedentary people, who are not forced to move much at work or school, and are unable to find the time to exercise. All the while, eating until they are beyond satisfied.
Contrarily, weight loss occurs when a person is at a caloric deficit. This means that a person is actually burning off more calories than he or she is taking in. For instance, this person may eat 2,000 calories in a day, but throughout her daily routine, and exercise burns 2,100 calories.
Those in the middle, essentially burn off what they eat in the long run, and are able to maintain a body weight for a long period of time.
Its all a pretty simple concept, but for most people actually going out and being able to do it becomes one of the biggest challenges of life. This happens solely because for many people food is just as addictive as alcohol is to some. For that reason, many people begin weight loss programs but quit because the urge to go back to their old comforting lifestyle, no matter how unhealthy, is to much to pass up. To those people, I would say that that hard work is required to see results in anything in life, and you must have a plan of attack, if you think that you are going to succeed beyond the first week.
So now that we have the technical stuff on the way, lets talk about one of the newest exercise machines on the market:
The Air Climber
Unless you are a borderline insomniac like myself, you may not have ever seen the informercials with Brenda Dygraf at four in the morning for this machine. I myself have seen many before, and would go out on a limb to say that this is definitely one of the better machines available on the market today. Offering a solid medium for exercising, and several bonus gifts to ensure satisfaction, I think giving it a try will be a very solid decision for any person on the fitness ladder. Those who are already exercising many times per week at a gym may find that the change in workout scenery (your home) is a good change of pace. Those who have never worked out before will also be interested in the features that are offered by the air climber from the perspective that it is easy to use, setup, and get fit using it.
So what is it?
Well at first glance you may not even be convinced that you can get a solid workout in with such a small machine, but boy would you be wrong. The machine itself is a set of two steps, which you must fill up with air once the product arrives at your house. Most air climbers’ come with bands that can be used to change up and add intensity to workouts as well, although the main concept here is the stepping portion of the machine. The machine itself is made a very solid material that can withstand a large amount of body weight, as well as ensure that nothing will go wrong when you get into an intense workout! As with any product however, their is no guarantee that the machine will last a lifetime, and you should not expect it to, especially at its low cost.
How is it Used?
If you have ever walked into a gym you may have seen some of the old stair masters still sitting these. These machines allow users to step up and down with the resistance that is determined by what you set it at. The air climber stepper works in the exact same fashion. Users of the machine step onto each step, and begin to “step” up and down on the unit. It may sound rather simple and easy, but rest assured one workout on the air climber, or any other stepper for that matter and you may never go back to another machine ever again.
For those of you that may be wondering what the advantages to exercising with a stepper are as opposed to a traditional method such as a treadmill or a bicycle, they are rather simple. For starters, using a stair master has been shown to burn more calories over time and thus works much better for weight loss than other machines. The reason for this is the fact that you are picking up every ounce of your body weight with every step. With a bicycle you are not utilizing your body weight, and with running the picking up of your body weight is more of a pounding felling than an added benefit. For those that may not feel as if enough resistance is given by solely using your body weight you may want to add in a weight belt for a better workout.
How is the Resistance Calculated?
Unlike traditional gym equipment that is full of computers and motherboards, the air climber has a simple system for changing the resistance of the machine. A knob. Thats right, in between the steps on the air climber exercise machine you will find a knob that can be turned left or right to adjust your resistance. A higher resistance will work more on muscle tone, volume, and endurance, while a lighter resistance will work on speed, and your overall cardiovascular health. For most people I would recommend starting yourself off at the lowest resistance for a workout equivalent to twenty minutes for the first 2-3 days. As you begin to build up a resistance you may want to consider raising the resistance, days per week, and minutes per exercise until you are able to workout at a max resistance, for 20 minutes, 6 days per week.
What is the Cost?
If you have gotten to this point of the review, then surely you are interested in the product enough to inquire about its cost. Currently the machine retails for approximately $99, with additional costs for shipping and handling depending on where you order it from. Contrary to what the informercials pitch to you, the machine is actually available in stores, and many, such as Target and Wal Mart are listing it for sale at the advertised $99 price tag. When you consider the fact that many exercise machines can cost in excess of several thousand dollars, the air climber would seem like a steal at a mere hundred bucks. It is especially great for those that are just getting started on their weight loss journey and do not want to go broke on a high tech machine. Lets also not forget the fact that even the cheapest of gym memberships is around twenty bucks a month, and when you consider how much you actually use all of the equipment at the gym, is it really worth it? You may also find that with a piece of gym equipment in your living room it becomes much easier to workout on a daily basis, rather than having to drive to the gym everyday.
Additional Features
Luckily for those that are interested in ordering the product, their are several additional features that should be noted as well. For starters, each air climber product comes with an air climber dvd. This DVD is full of workouts from the products creator, Brenda Dygraf. This is great for those who may not be able to stay motivated on the machine, and can now have someone there working along side of them. Or for those that may not be aware of how to take advantage of all the great features that the machine has to offer. In addition, a nutritional guide is included with every order. This wall sized guide is going to guide you through the process of eating properly, because no matter how much you workout, it will be very hard to loose weight without a proper diet.
Proper Nutrition for Weight Loss
So now that you know what the air climber is, you are ready to begin your journey to weight loss and better health, although as I said in the previous paragraph, your diet will be the make or break factor in any long term health program. Here are some tips for you to ensure that you stay on track for the long haul. It wont be easy to change your lifestyle or eating habits overnight, but with a sustained effort you may very well find that in the long run you will actually despise the foods that you once enjoyed so much. In the midst of my weight loss journey, fast food was this item. As I was gaining weight it was simply all that I wanted to eat, though once I began to loose weight and see results I never wanted, and eventually began to speak out about it.
- Drink 1 Gallon of Water Per Day
- Cut out fast food
- Stop drinking soda
- Eat at least one fruit or vegetable with every meal
- Cut down on red meat
- Do not drink alcohol
There are literally thousands of tips available on the internet, from fitness, experts, gurus and the like. Do me a favor and instead of reading every blog you can find that is trying to sell you the newest weight loss e-book, go out and start eating right and exercising, and let me know your results in the long term. Many people will fall into the trap into reading far to deeply into the information that is available rather than going out and trying exercises or diet plans to see what works.
The air climber, much like any other product you will find on the market is just a tool or an accessory, and is not the answer to any prayer or question you may have about fitness. When used properly it will lift you higher than traditional methods, but it is in no way a substitute. For those that are already exercising at the gym you will find the same sort of experience with a traditional stair master, although the reason for the air climber is to allow you not to have to drive to the gym, or pay a membership fee!
All that being said, I would give the Air Climber an A- on an A+ grading scale if for no other reason than simplicity and the dvd workout video that is included with every purchase. The reason I do not want to go out and give the product an A+ rating right off the bat comes from the fact that some people have reported breaking their air climbers due to overuse. I like to look at this as a positive, considering the fact that if you are exercising enough to actually break your exercise machine, then you are certainly doing something right!
