There are few cheaper ways of getting around town than by using something like a small motor scooter or motorcycle. Among the most popular choices are 50cc mopeds and 125cc Scooters. They do not cost too much to buy, and are cheap to insure. Best of all they use hardly any fuel. In crowded cities you can save a fortune on parking fees because you can often just squeeze them into a small space for free instead of having to pay for your parking.
But you do need to be careful to stay safe on them. It is a sad fact of life but even though there are very few motorcyclists on the roads, they end up in the hospital emergency room far more often than we would like. So if you do take up riding, be sure that you do it safely.
The first thing you should do is go right away and spend good money on the best full face motorcycle helmet you can afford. Get one that is certified for racing as these are tested to higher standards than ordinary ones. If you have second thoughts about spending the money or think you can do better buying a really cheap helmet somewhere else, then just go on YouTube and look up some of the horrific pictures of accidents that sometimes happen. Then imagine your face on those pictures. Whatever you spend will be tiny compared to the doctors bills of opening up your head if you have a bad accident and your helmet is too cheap to protect you properly.
The next thing you need is a good set of gloves. Motorcycle gloves are essential. D on ot think that you can get away with some nylon ski gloves. They provide no protection at all. You need decent ones with leather and Kevlar. Your hands are often then first part of you to hit the road if you come off your scooter, so be sure that they have the best.
