T5 aquarium lighting is the most energy efficient lighting available on the market today, utilizing as much as 45% less energy than its predecessors. For your aquarium, it is not only a money saver, but also highly attractive, providing strong, professional lighting to display your tank the way it was meant to be.
While natural sunlight is arguably the ideal lighting for aquariums, even with the best skylight or window, there are only so many hours in the day. T5 lighting alleviates the hassle of location and time of day, providing outstanding quality light no matter the time, and they can last for as long as three years with minimal degradation.
Due to their smaller bulb size and superior luminance, T5 light bulbs can have something of a glare problem, but properly arranging your aquarium T5 lights will prevent this from becoming an issue. Keeping the bulbs out of direct line of sight, and using the proper luminary to distribute the light evenly are both viable solutions.
T5 aquarium lighting carries a very striking and elegant look, regardless of aquarium size. If you find that such a fixture would be right for you, make sure that you are getting High Output bulbs (T5HO) to maximize the quality of light that you receive for the size of the bulbs. At a mere 5/8″ diameter, more bulbs will fit underneath your tank’s canopy, should you so desire.
Naturally, it is important to be certain of the needs of your tank’s inhabitants to determine if T5 lighting fixtures are right for you. Both light intensity and spectrum are very important to consider, and photosynthetic aquarium creatures in particular are very sensitive to changes in lighting and temperature. Fortunately, T5 bulbs produce little heat compared to other florescent lights, aiding in their energy efficiency. If you decide to see what T5 technology has to offer, always make sure that you research the illumination needs of your aquarium residents before making a purchase.
