Why is it that canopy beds work so much better in hotels rooms and suites than they do in your own bedroom? There’s always something exciting about booking a hotel, arriving, being shown to your room and walking in to see a canopy bed sitting there in all its glory. You know you’re on holiday straight away right? After our last vacation we returned having decided that there was no reason why we shouldn’t enjoy that kind of luxury all year round.

So we recently bought a canopy bed with some gorgeous canopy bed bedding to match and we are pleased with the overall effect. We should be really, it all cost an absolute fortune. Maybe I’ll warm to it more over time but at the moment the overall effect is not quite what I was hoping for.My wife is pleased enough but even she realizes that something is lacking and as I’m the one who always decides on the interior decoration it’s fallen to me to find a solution.

I think maybe it has something to do with the light. In a hotel suite there’s always a lot of lighting whether it be internal or external and I think this can make a big difference to the way things look. I guess I need to rethink the lighting plan for the room. Maybe a handful of spot lights would do the trick, I think if we put them with a dimmer switch then the effect could be quite moody.

Natural light of course is the best remedy if you want to really lift a room but of course you are restricted by what you already have… unless your wife thinks it might be worth the expense of getting the builders in and smashing through the walls so you can expand your normal window into a full on double bay window. Not something I had preciously considered but clearly something I’m going to have to save up for now!
