Organic cotton clothes for babies are becoming more and more popular and with good reason. We are now more aware of how crops are grown and how food, clothing and other household items are produced and the impact of this on our families’ health. Considering the original of the products we use every day is even more important when we consider our children, particularly babies. Babies’ skin is incredibly sensitive to chemicals and if your baby has a skin condition such as eczema, it is even more important to ensure their exposure is at a minimum.

Billions of dollars worth of pesticides are used on cotton crops every year and these same pesticides find their way into our clothing. Most people think of cotton clothing as a natural fabric but after heavy use of pesticides, chemical dyes and petroleum softeners, it is anything but. The skin of a baby is thinner and more fragile than an adult’s. This means that your baby’s skin easily absorbs anything that comes into contact with it, including the chemicals from non-organic clothing.

Organic cotton is grown without the use of harmful chemical pesticides and fertilizers. Organic clothes are also produced using only natural dyes without harsh toxic chemicals, so you can be sure they will be safe for your baby’s skin.

Cotton clothing produced in an organic way is usually more expensive than regular clothing, but this cost is becoming less as more retailers are recognizing the demand for natural, toxin free clothing and increasing their stock ranges. Organic fabric is also much more durable than cheaper versions, as it has not gone through the intensive chemical production process. Overall organic clothing is great value for money and most parents consider the cost to be well worth the advantages to the health of their children.

Choosing organic is also a great way to protect the environment in general, ensuring a healthy future for our planet and our children. Reducing pesticide use protects the quality of our soil and water and prevents the buildup of toxic chemicals in birds and other wildlife that can have a long term impact on our environment.

Organic cotton clothes are the natural choice for a healthy family and a healthy environment in which to grow up. Most baby clothes retailers now stock an organic range and there are several companies that specialize in natural, organic baby clothing so there’s no reason not to make sure your child’s wardrobe is healthy and natural.
