Last Summer, before I headed off for a carefree escape to the Lake Of Eternal Sand In Your Shorts, I grabbed plenty of suntan lotion, aqua socks, a big cooler, a big float and a darling life jacket for my special girl. After that, we were both ready for a day of nasal bubbles, fun and eternal sand in our shorts.
When I headed over to the pet store, what I had in mind was a bright yellow or orange life vest with a handle at the top so that I could grab my dog and carry her like a big, wet purse. What I got was something blue with paw prints on it. This is what I get for buying this item a couple of months after Summer had already begun.
Once we arrived at our destination of pleasure, I found the life jacket useful as I would sometimes let her swim out on her own and when she got too far, I could reach out and grab the carrying handle quicker than I could grab a part of her body. The jacket also made it easier for me to see her once I realized that she was swimming out too far away from me.
So far, I have never taken my dog boating, but I would like to. I have taken other dog’s boating and the dog life jacket was a necessity. I had one dog that wanted desperately to dive for trot line markers. I felt better about trying to control his ardent fervor knowing that he would not sink to the bottom of a 30 foot lake should he make a successful dart for a marker!
