Choosing a map of the world poster can be a difficult challenge because there are so many to choose from. World posters are a great geography tool for anyone but especially teachers and of course their pupils. So, how do you go about choosing the right poster?

For 120 years National Geographic has been a great source to get maps. It contains a large database which allows them to combine data taken by technology and mapping techniques that are performed digitally. National Geographic’s extensive research and exquisite attention to fine details have created a standard of accomplishment that is like no other.

The classic world political map offers detailed projection which reduces distortion of large chunks of land as they get close to the poles. Although not political in nature, some additional features might be shown such as the oceans’ currents, and wind and storm details, as well as the ubiquitous colorful country and border depictions. There might also be representations of the North and South politico-economic regions, world land use, population density, and vegetation.

The world mural map is a good choice if you are looking for that real life size feel in a map although you of course have some way to go before actually getting a scale of 1:1!  This is a great choice for a classroom or a child’s bedroom. It will teach your child in an innovative fun and more interactive way the different countries, states, cities, and so on.

World satellite maps contain the most accurate data of the Earth’s surface possible. They are computer generated and receive their data from 500 rolling images or more to give intricate details and exact representation of colors.

The world physical and ocean floor maps pay close attention to land forms and undersea features respectively.  They sometimes come hand painted to beautiful perfection. Notably, the Winkel Tripel, one form of this type of topographical map, minimizes distortion from the land masses. Some of these maps come with some additional informational maps at the side, perhaps highlighting world climate or zones of the earth’s crust and core. Some versiosn are laminated and enlarged, and contain a surface suitable for writing your own notes, and erasing them when you are done.

An Earth at night map is also a unusual but very enthralling map of the world poster to consider. What is so different and unique about this one though is that it does a magnificent job of capturing the natural light of the earth at night time. The view is an image taken from one full year of clear cloudless nights. It also highlights burning fires, fishing, and where natural gas burns at night.

As you can see there are many world maps to choose from. You can find them small and compact or as large as a world map poster for hanging on the wall or even as a mural for massive impact.
