A curtain rod does more than just hold up your drapes. It is part of the style of your room. There is many different shapes and styles of curtain rods, and there is sure to be one that fits in perfectly with your decor. Curtain rods are built out of metal or wood. It is important to select a rod that is designed for the load that you will call upon it to bear. Since curtain rods do not get replaced often, it is important to choose wisely. You first need to decide how your drapes are going to fall. Generally the drapes are larger than the window, and the curtain rod is hung above the window. If this is the case, it is a good idea to have your curtain rod be six inches wider on each side of the window. Perfection is not required here, and inch or two out is not such a big deal. Going wider can make your window look larger than it actually is, and wider curtains do a better job of keeping privacy than ones that are closer to the window.
Your new curtain rod needs to be capable of supporting the load that you are going to put on it. A very light drapery only needs a very light curtain pole. Light curtain rods are often built out of metal, and are adjustable within a certain range. For most short spans, a support bracket on each end is sufficient. A longer span will need another support bracket in the middle so the rod won’t bend. Follow manufacturer instructions when installing your new curtain rod.

A medium curtain rod can be built out of either metal or wood. Metal ones are usually available in stock in many stores in an adjustable fashion. Either material is usually available in lengths that are built long and are cut to your measurements prior to delivery. The other option is to get the curtain rod custom ordered to your measurements, or have an in home consultation and they can order the right curtain rod for your application. Medium rods are from three quarters of an inch to an inch and a half. Double check the weight capacity prior to ordering, you may need an extra middle bracket to get the capacity up. Or you may have to go to a larger curtain rod.

Black out curtains need to have a very heavy duty curtain rod. The weight that is needed to be supported often makes it so you need to have the curtain poles custom ordered. This size of curtain rod can be either wood or metal construction. It is very important to make sure that they are installed properly so they don’t fall down.

Bay windows have a special set of problems for curtain poles. The need to go around angles and still have the curtain be able to pass is troublesome. The cheapest and lightest weight solution is special bay window poles that have slots cut so you can bend the angle by hand. These are not very sturdy at all and should not be used for anything higher than the lightest of sheers. There are knuckle joint options available as well. This is a little heavier duty, but both options tend to sag at the angles. Pass through curtain rings were invented to solve this problem. They allow supports to be put at the corners angles. This is a much heavier duty option and recommended for any heavy draperies. Another alternative would be to treat each window separately with its own curtain pole. Depending on the layout of the specific window, this may or may not be an option.

This project is quick and easy project but before you get started you need to look at whether you really need a whole new vanity or just a new basin. Oftentimes your vanity cabinet is in really good shape still. It probably only looks distressed because of any chips or stains that may be present there. If this is the case, then you will be able to easily sand and repaint the cabinet and replace the sink and the countertop. This will restore the beauty of your bathroom for only a small amount of money. Of course, whether or not you will be able to do this will depend upon if your washbasin is a single molded unit or if it’s a laminated countertop that has a separate washbasin.

If your sink is recessed below the counter level and there is no apparent seam, then you have a one-piece design. However, if you see a lip around it whenever it is viewed from beneath the underside of the counter, then it is a dropped cutout and thus the washbasin is a separate piece. In this case, you will be able to replace only the basin or scrap the entire thing and start all over. The replacement process will be similar either way.

Locate the shutoff value for your hot and cold water. If these aren’t located behind your sink, you’ll need to turn the water off to the whole house. Once you do this you can disconnect the supply lines. From there you need to remove your sink or countertop. Usually the countertop is screwed into the vanity base at the corners with wood screws. A removable sink is usually caulked into place and may also have retaining screws at the bottom of the counter. If you are going to reuse the countertop you’ll need to use a razor blade to gently cut through the caulk before prying the sink out. By applying painter’s tape to the outside of the sink you won’t scratch everything up while doing this.

After you have removed the original fixtures it is time to replace the vanity basin and reconnect the water. This is a simple DIY project that will only take you an afternoon to do. In the end you’ll add lots of beauty and value to your home though.

Not everyone is lucky enough to have a spacious garden and some people don’t have a garden at all. To get started, there are some materials that you will need. You will need a strong cardboard box that is at least 6 inches in depth, a few wire coat hangers, some strong clear plastic, strong tape, a wire cutter and a few plastic grocer bags.

1.    Place the strong clear plastic inside the box making sure that covers it completely and bring it right up to the edges of the box, cutting it if need be and then secure the edges of the plastic to the box with some strong tape.

2.    Place the soil into the box a couple of inches high.

3.    Using a wire cutter, cut off the hook and twisted part of the coat hanger and bend the other part to a U shape andturn it upside down and place it in one end of the box of soil. Repeat the same process for the other end of the box. You may need to place another in the middle, depending on the length of the box. 4.    Once you have thought about which plants you would like to grow, plant them as directed on the packaging makingsure that you leave enough space between each.

5.    Label the box with a permanent marker to signify what you are growing inside it.

6.    Water your plants slightly so that they are just damp and not soaked.

7.    Place the plastic grocer bag over the top of the mini greenhouse and secure it to the inside of the box with a stapler.

8.    Place your greenhouse in a sunny place such as a window sill or balcony and within no time at all you will see them grow.
