Hippie clothing was a hit during the 60’s. This type of clothing was loose and made of cottons and hemp. Both men and women grew their hair long and accessorized it with headbands and ribbons. Pants or shirts may have been sewn, woven or knit. These are just some of the things that hippies usually wear.
Hippie bell bottom jeans are the most worn by hippies. They have fringe or trimmings at the ankle and have flower or fabric patches on it. Colorful shirts, blouses or vest are paired with these pants and it did go well. The sides of the pants are seamed with patterned fabrics or cloth scraps. Patches are being cut out on fabrics. They are ironed or sewn into the pants. Popular symbols are peace signs, musical notes, and leaves.
Lady hippies also wear skirts and dresses. These are dresses that do not look like the dresses worn in runways. Mini and micro skirts were a thing. A short skirt was worn with a boots or sandal, and a trimmed fabric is tied on the waistband. Dresses are mostly enhanced with ribbons and flowers. Vest and tie dyed shirts are common. These vests are somehow made out of suede or denim fabrics. Some are from button shirts were the sleeves were cut off. Like the pants, patches are also incorporated on the vests.
Flowers were the emblem of the hippie look. It is because flower symbolizes peace and love- two values that hippies advocate. Floral patterns were popular may it be on dresses, skirts or tops. Real flowers are also placed in the hair as an accessory. Fabrics folded are also used as a headband. The tie dye hoodie was one of the most popular pieces of hippie clothing and can be found at Mexican Threads.
Women and men during the hippie culture do not wear gold jewelries. Hippies prefer to wear multiple bead necklaces or bracelets. Also necklaces with a peace or love sign on it. Ankle bracelets were also popular during that time. Most hippies were sandals but some prefer to go barefoot.
