Breville Juice Foutain Elite

The Breville 800JEXL juice fountain elite is the most powerful centrifugal juice extractor available on the market. For this reason and the fact that I have read so many great reviews about this juice extractor I decided to buy myself one about 6 months ago. I can truly say I am not sorry for making this purchase and having used other centrifugal juice extractors, this is the most well built and fastest I have used. As with all things there are pros and cons, so here are my experiences with the Breville juice fountain elite over the past 6 months.

The very high speed motor of the Breville juice fountain elite can be switched between two available speeds, 13,000RPM is the full speed option and 6,500RPM is the half speed selection. 13,000RPM is an incredible speed that is powered by a 1000 watt Italian designed motor. All other centrifugal juice extractors do not come close to this kind of power. The Jack LaLanne power juicers, for example, run at 3,600RPM, that is about 1/4 of the full capacity of the Breville juice fountain elite. (Not to knock the Jack LaLanne power juicers. I own one and think they are great for the price, costing about 1/3 the price of a Breville juice fountain elite).

Fresh Orange Juice

Tough produce, such as carrots, beets, whole apples and potatoes are broken down into juice in seconds, literally, without any sign of the motor slowing down or being placed under pressure. Even pineapples can be juiced with their tough rinds on and several carrots juiced at once without the slightest ‘murmur’ from the motor. This is really an exceptional quality for a juice extractor! The official Breville website claims that 8oz of juice can be made in 5 seconds; I can attest that this claim really is true, provided you have your produce cleaned and ready to go. For softer produce such as leafy greens like spinach and kale, melons and berries the half speed option of 6,500RPM is the better choice. This gives time for the juice to be extracted more efficiently than at the full speed option.

Another great feature is the presence of a “smart chip” that provides feedback to the motor. This ‘tells’ the motor to increase or decrease power accordingly to handle the load at hand. This helps to increase efficiency of the juice yield. The powerful “g-force” of such high RPM also improves juice yield efficiency. The small pulp particles are forced against the micro-mesh stainless steel filter to squeeze out extra drops of juice. Adding all these features together provides the best juice yield you can expect from a centrifugal based juice extractor and although I have no hard figures, the left over pulp is more dry than what I have seen with other centrifugal juice extractors.

Grinding down fruits and veggies into juice at such great speeds requires more than just a phenomenal high speed motor. The blade that the motor spins has to be of complimentary quality and of course it is just that. The blade is made up of a light weight but very strong titanium plated stainless steel cutting disc that features 115 tiny angled knives. This patented design increases efficiency and speed that in no way hinders the speed of the motor. I think the Breville juice fountain elite could actually juice logs, although I am not going to test that theory out! The juice fountain elite truly is the first juice extractor I have used that requires no muscle power on the users behalf. The Jack LaLanne power juicers, although they handle carrots, beets and potatoes ok, do require some oomph from the user and you will definitely here the motor ‘complain’ with beets and potatoes.

Breville Juice Foutain Elite 2The wide feed chute of the Breville juice fountain elite is 3″ in diameter  and the Breville company was the first to introduce this large sized feed chute to juice extractors. 3″ is a great size that can fit small apples and other produce whole. Larger apples will need to halved first, but still that is only one cut. Many juicers require multiple cuts and a lot of prep time to prepare fruits and vegetables for their smaller feed tubes. So the convenience of the 3″ wide feed chute combined with the almost jet powered motor really does making this the fastest juice extractor on Earth.

The juice jug that comes with the Breville juice fountain elite 800JEXL fits snugly to the front and is designed perfectly to ensure that no juice whatsoever sprays anywhere else other than in the juice jug. This is an important feature because a juicer like this that juices fruits and vegetables so quickly will eject juice rapidly, creating a spray that can make a real mess. The juice jug also features a very handy foam filter so that you can pour a nice foam free juice from it. However, there is a drawback to this – you can’t really use any other container effectively without some spraying. The juice jug fits so well that the custom design doesn’t really work for any other kind of container or jug. Trust me when I say that juicing directly into a juice glass is a big no no! So stick with the included juice jug and you will be just fine.

The pulp collector bin at the back of the Breville 800JEXL juice fountain elite is a great size and allows you to make many juices continuously before needing to be emptied. If you line the pulp collector with a trash can liner or plastic bag then you don’t even need to clean the pulp container after you have used the juicer. This is a great tip for speeding up cleaning time. I actually use the pulp as compost to make the best use of it.

lemon juiceSo this brings us to cleaning the Breville juice fountain elite. Compared to the Jack LaLanne power juicer, the juice fountain elite is an easier machine to clean. There are less parts and less nooks and crannies, although I won’t say there are no nooks and crannies. However, having some cue tips handy takes care of this problem. The included brush cleans up the blade and filter quickly and effectively. All in all, once you get used to it, the clean up process just takes a few minutes and is pretty easy. This is not a hard juice extractor to clean. The parts are also dish washer safe, but up until now I have only washed it by hand as a result of bad experiences in the past of putting the parts of other juice extractors in the dish washer.

In Conclusion
This is a great centrifugal juice extractor and in my honest opinion it is the best centrifugal juice extractor you can buy. Of course, such high quality also comes with a complimentary price tag. The Breville juice fountain elite is therefore the most expensive centrifugal based juice extractor on the market. It cost me $300 when I bought it but you can now find them for about $260 if you shop around. I think it is worth every penny due to the fact that it is as solid as a rock and as fast as lightening. It really is an extremely well built machine. I would say that I would buy another Breville juice fountain elite, no problemo, but I think it is going to be a very long time before the one I have will need replacing!
