There are many types of automotive jacks. One of the types of automotive jacks is automotive floor jack. Automotive floor jacks are widely used in homes, businesses and in automotive repair shops.
It is necessary to know about the functionality of automotive floor jack before purchasing one. Automotive floor jacks are basically an essential tool that should be available in almost every garage and it is used for the maintenance of cars. Usually when you buy a brand new car automotive floor jack, specially designed for that car, is provided along with the car.
Sometimes you may lose or break the jack that was provided with new car and you would have to look for a substitute for it. There are many things that should be kept in mind before buying an automotive floor jack. Any mistake while purchasing a floor jack may lead to waste of time and effort.
There are automotive floor jacks that are used for replacing tires. These types of jacks are designed to lift only a portion of a car. But if you want to check other parts of the car or the undercarriage damage then you would require lifting the whole part of the car, so you would need a floor jack that is designed for this purpose.
There are 4 major types of floor jacks. These are Scissor jacks, high-lifting jacks, small hydraulic jacks and large hydraulic jacks. Scissor jacks use the central screw mechanism. This mechanism is used for raising or lowering the jack. You will need some sort of specialized handle to drive the scissor jack.
The other type is high-lifting jacks. This type of jacks can be used for high travel vehicles such as trucks, vans only. They consist of a large base plate. Tall metal plate is needed to drive them. Small hydraulic jacks are further divided into two types, wheeled scissor jacks and the other one is non-wheeled. Both of them are almost identical in use to scissor jacks and the high-lifting jacks. Large hydraulic floor jacks are very powerful and are used when there is a need to raise either the front or back portion of the car.
You should be very careful while using floor jacks. It also offers safety features to avoid any injury to the owner. These jacks consist of wide bases for the stabilization of the jack. It has special handles and stop point which prevents it to be extended beyond limitations.
It is helpful while you are going for a long drive, and when you need to change the tire of the car, and you would like to avoid calling anyone for help.
