If you choose to buy an FRS radio, make sure you also get a walkie talkie headset as well.  You may not have an idea of how to use the headset at first, but I’m almost sure that you’ll eventually find yourself thankful, that you decided to make the additional purchase.  Headsets really are quite convenient after all.

For instance, you might be using your radio while you are out on a picnic with the family, friends and other relatives.  Maybe you want to be able to stay in touch with your kids, while they’re off playing in the distance.  Now, what happens if you need to carry stuff from the car to the picnic area?  If you have a headset, that isn’t a problem, but if you don’t, you’ll find yourself trying to press the unit to your face with one hand, while attempting to balance all the other stuff.

If you have a headset, you just wear it or set it in place, and that leaves both of your hands free to carry things or manipulate objects.  And while you’re doing all that, you can continue to communicate with your children, even if they’re far away.

Or maybe you plan to use the radio while at the mall, so that it’s easy to coordinate errands with your spouse.  After a few hours of walking around with the radio in hand, you might find yourself wondering if there’s an easier way to lug the thing around, so that your arm doesn’t end up more tired.  A headset can do that for you, but without one, your options are more limited.

These are just a few examples of how a headset can make your two way radio a more convenient and easier to use device.  I’m sure other people can come up with other examples.  So clearly, a headset is useful.  Try to keep that in mind when you buy yourself some two way radios.
