Most commercial gyms will do their best to create an environment where the best machines are on display in an effort to keep current clients coming back and to get new prospective customers to feel good about purchasing memberships there.  What this means for the consumer is that you can glean some clues as to which machines perform the best and would make a good addition to your home gym.

Nautilus is a company from Finland that has been making gym equipment since the 60′s.  Chances are if you have been to a Golds Gym you’ve seen there stuff.  What makes Nautilus a favorite among home gym buyers is their unprecedented warranty – a full 10 years on parts and labor.  In order to offer something like that you have to build a really solid piece of equipment and while the Nautilus line is a well built elliptical machine, it does fall short in the user interface.  Cost is around $2,000.

Precor is by far and away the most popular line of elliptical trainers for a few reasons.  The first is if we say their commercial machine represents 100% of available functions and features their retail line represents no less than 90%.  Commercial machines need to meet more peoples preferences and those same functions are not usually necessary in the home versions, but Precor doesn’t seem to care.  The cost will set you back about $3,000 and be sure to make room for the size of this thing 8ft long by 3ft wide, the machine will definitely give you the best elliptical workout.

Life Style Fitness is the home gyms most economical choice running around $500 bucks.  Unfortunately the cost is exactly representative of the functionality of the machine.  There are very few settings, the strides are not nearly as long which means less overall tone and definition in your muscles.  It would be more of a get you from A to B kinda workout and if all you are interested in is burning a few calories and lowering you cholesterol than the Life Style machine may be your best bet.
